Study 7 – improv composition

This is a result of trying to find a good way to create music with the system I have developed so far. I first recorded a longer improvised stretch, and then composed a piece from the best parts, re-recording some of the original sections untilI got the transitions I wanted.

This way of generating ideas by first improvising and then editing this improvised material into compositions with all the possibility of tidy structures that improvisations sometimes lack, seems to be a good way to make music with my system. I do not feel as bound by the idea of an authentic performance here compared to when performing improvised acoustic instrumental music, and so it becomes much easier to treat the improvisations as raw material for further composition. Also, detailed sound-by-sound composing with the system I now have is anyway much more cumbersome than just performing the musical idea at hand.
